How to connect Claude to JamCash with MCP

To connect an AI assistant, create an API key in JamCash under Settings, API keys, choose its scopes, then add JamCash's MCP server to the assistant with that key. For Claude Code that is one claude mcp add command. The assistant then sees only the tools your key's scopes allow.

    Create an API key

    In JamCash, open Settings, then API keys, and create a key. Give it a name you will recognize, such as the assistant's name.

    Choose its scopes

    Pick finance:read for questions only. Add finance:write if the assistant may categorize transactions and set budgets. The key is shown once, so copy it now.

    Add the MCP server

    Point the assistant at your JamCash MCP endpoint, /api/mcp on your JamCash address, with the key as a Bearer token. The API keys page shows the exact command for Claude Code.

    Ask a question

    Ask the assistant something like "Am I on budget this month?" It will call JamCash's tools and answer from your real numbers.

Which tools does the assistant get?

JamCash offers 16 MCP tools. With finance:read the assistant can use 13: the overview, accounts, transactions, categories and rules, budgets and budget status, savings goals, recurring items, the spending report, sync status and the review queue. finance:write adds three: categorize a transaction, set a budget, and delete a budget.

Can the assistant delete anything by mistake?

Only budgets, and only with a key that carries finance:write. Give an assistant a finance:read key and it can look but never change anything. No tool can touch the bank connection, and no tool can move money.

What is the command for Claude Code?

Replace the address with yours and the key with the one you copied. The API keys page fills both in for you.

How do I cut an assistant off?

Revoke its key on the API keys page. The next call fails immediately; nothing else changes.
